Gave a Model but Could not Became a Role Model
There was a unstable, coalition government with the leadership of Mr P V Narasimha Rao. He had a vision and bravery to bring the revolutionary changes in the Indian Economy. He found Mr Singh is the bet suitable to handle such a crisis. He was a scholar, played the role of the governor of RBI and also as the Finance Secretary during crucial time. He had a privilege to sign on both Re 1 note and also notes of above Re 1 i.e. both currency notes and bank notes. He was undoubtedly a most suitable person. He became the union finance minister and Rao-Manmohan model was added to the curriculam of the economic students. Our footprints in the globalised economy started from there.
Our economy is not fully opened or fully closed. Rupee is not fully convertible or non convertible. We are at safer side. We are partially insulated and even protected against the lethal effect of the recession. A software engineer in this country earns in lakhs per month, a professional is able to earn a handsome income, banks like SBI, BOB has gone global, and the employees are well paid, the opportunities are huge. We are strong enough and growing stronger day by day. The credit should go to Dr Man Mohan Singh.
He has thousand of good qualities to write. He has done several achievements herever he is- from academics to the Prime Minister Office. Have you ever considered him as a role model? Our mothers tell the story and achievements of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam. We get thrilled by reading the stories of Sri A B Vajapayi. Whenever it comes to Singh we see him with a doubtful eye. It is just because his loyalty towards the fake (to differentiate the borrowed name from the Mahatma) Gandhi family. Without the slavery of the Vishakanya (of Subramaniam Swamy), we know, he could not have achieved the height. This make him a model who was such a bright to gave an economic model and finally bars him from being a role model for Indian youth.
Changed Rain Pattern is a Cause of Worries
To support there was a report in The Hindu. The average rainfall of the state is decreased from 1204mm to 1146 mm in recent years. The rainfall in coastal and Malnad areas decreased significantly and that in Kolar, Bangalore, Bidar, Gulbarga and Bijapur like interior areas increased. The average rain fall in Bangalore has increased about 20%. This is due to increase in the pollutants in Bangalore acting as artificial rainfall inducing agents condensing the vapour.
The change in the rainfall pattern is impacting the agricultural system. The sowing and planting of the paddy in the areas of Uttara Kannada is delayed. They usually start harvesting the paddy during Dashera after performing Pooja in the coastal parts and during Deepawali in Malnad Taluks of Uttara Kannada. This year I observed there was lack of grown paddy crop even to do Pooja. When asked for the reason they tell it is because of the delayed sowing which is intern related to the delayed monsoon.
One can mention several reason for this change, adding to the deforestation. But whats is the action plan? Should the people change their way of life and adjust to the new pattern of rain or is there any solution. I found no answer as no one has taken the matter seriously. But definitely it is going to affect the human life in coming years.

Private Banks, Money Laundering and Frauds
Couple of years back the same leading private bank had a client Shree Om Sai Nath Car On Rent Pvt ltd. This was a chain market company, which collected a huge amount from the public. Initially cheques were duly paid by the bank. Within a year the account was freezed by the court. The bank could have shown social responsibility and could have saved hard earned money of poor people.
The similar cases also been reported by Belgaum. Sri Sai Multi Service (SMS) was another fraud company involved in the chain marketing with a full banking support from the Axis Bank, collected a huge amount from the public through its account DDs and wannabe fraudster company was raided.
I hope you have not forgotten fraud happened in City Bank in Gurgaon. The main accused of the City Bank Fixed deposit scam Sanjay Gupta of Hero Corporate Services owned two firms G2S and BG finance company. These companies were registered as consulting firms but did not have any offices. Even then these companies had accounts with Axis Bank. Police seized Rs 20 Crores from their Axis Bank account. A company no needs to have an office to open an account with Axis Bank! Finally the state run SBI officials helped the police to find the kingpin of the scam
The fraudster’s relationship with the Axis Bank does not end here. A single google search will though a lot of news of fraud companies having accounts with the Axis Bank. Kadri Police of Mangalore arrested Pravin Shetty who is said to be partner of Global Index Investment Company and seized the account with the Axis Bank. The bank which opened the account of the fraudster company was mentioned and forgotten
These banks are target driven. The top executive put immense pressure on the sales executive. Sales personals bring such customers and accounts of the fraud companies get open in the bank based on the documents submitted by them. They even satisfy the KYC norms according to the present regulation. The will power of the banker to show some social responsibility and serve the society against such frauds can only prevent such fraud accounts. In don’t think you can expect it from private banks that are running behind the numbers.

Engineering- the cheapest graduation!
Engineering colleges are all set to sell the degrees at cheap rates! Some institutions have already started selling their cheap products both in quality and price. Offering management seats to candidates from CET quota at the reduced price of Rs 35,000/- supports this. Even then unfilled seats increased from 9,000 in 2010 to 15,000 in 2011. There are more than half of the seats in many new colleges were unfilled when I verified the Karnataka Examination Authority website.
The Hindu had reported that the COMEDK sources said that more than 30 colleges had zero admission in management seats, these colleges have slashed their fees by 50%-60% to attract the students. Even then they failed to fill the vacant seats.
The promotion mix used by these colleges is full of false messages. They have also employed paid survey agencies to give a good rating for their colleges. I have recently seen an advertisement of Reva Institute of Technology, Bangalore claiming it is the Best Private Engineering College in India and the Best Engineering College in Bangalore. Education Expo TV has done this rating from Gurgaon. I can definitely tell my readers that this is not even the best college in its area of 10 km. radius. Another similar college is claiming it is the best college for Entrepreneurship education and also it has 100% placement record. Can both coincide?
I have never seen good college advertising during CET counseling to mislead the students like this. You can see People Education Society advertising its Shimoga college but never PESIT, Bangalore. Mangaloreans listen to the ads of SDM College of Engineering Ujire ‘synonymous for 100% result’, which is a very new college, and only one batch is passed out. But people of Dharwad won’t to SDMIT which is much superior to former one.
Remember, cheap (in quality) engineering degrees won’t stand when you come out of the colleges!

How Reward Points Turn Costly for You?
They are the common promotion tactics used by many debit/credit card issuers now a days. They tie up with some sellers and ask cardholders to stick to them while making any purchase. There are also independent reward programs like imint in India. There was a reward program by Times of India group called Times Reward, which failed within no time of its launch despite of huge publicity, due to non-support from the sellers.
The main idea behind the reward points is to trap the customer to be loyal to the product or the seller in the long run. They say he will be rewarded for being loyal to their products. The customer starts accumulating the reward points for the every purchase he makes from the same seller. At certain point when he reaches the specified reward points he can redeem the points to the discount or gifts, and in some situations to monetary benefits.
What is the benefit to the seller? The customer, who looks at the reward point every time when he makes purchase decision, visits the same shop. He does not even bother to pay little more as he is getting the reward point, which he thinks he can redeem later. So usually customer ends in paying more as he stops comparing the price and products with competitors.
As you come near the required loyal or reward points to get a gift or discount coupon, as studied by the psychologists, we tend to spend more to get that as soon as possible. We are willing to spend more money in the name accumulating the reward points. We may end up in buying unnecessary items in the name of loyal points.
Usually, the reward program keeps the reward redeem options little higher, so that the majority of the reward card holders gets an illusion that he reaches it soon by spending more. But most of the time it does not happen. When more and more reward card holders reaches that level the offers will be revised. It makes customer to purchase more, to be more loyal.
I am not against the reward programs or completely oppose holding a reward point options. I have reward point options enabled for all my credit/debit cards. I also have a few loyalty cards of super markets. But I never allowed these to influence my purchase decision. If I come up with a decision to buy a product, which has rewards attached with, ok, I am happy. I strongly believe making purchase decision based on reward points will costs you more in long run.

MOTHER
Even at his 25 years he calls her "Mother India" as these two words are precious for him. His mother always wanted him to love India and this patriotism could be inherited from her patriotic grand parents who participated in Indian Freedom Fight. She made his son to read works of Swami Vivekananda, Sri Arabindo etc at the age of 5. She wanted him to be a nationalist. But when he started thinking like the extremists to find the short cuts she warned him “I wanted my son to be a Citizen of the world. I taught you how to be a ‘Vishwa Maanav’. He became Hindu Nationalist and still he is, she accepted it.
After reading the books one after the other, histories inspired her son in his childhood. He wanted to conquer the world well before the age in which Alexander did. He liked ‘The Alexander’, and ‘The Ashoka’ . He wanted to achieve everything with the short cuts available to see smile on his mother’s face. She told him short cuts would end in miseries. What one wins should be sustained without making anyone sad.
Being a lower middleclass working lady during his childhood she taught him the importance of money. She did not give cash when he asked for. She gave him a cheque in his name when he was 12 years, he experienced how difficult is to encash it. She also taught him relationship is more valued than money. Once he asked her mother ‘what you want me to be when I grow up?’ She knew he has big dreams and his dreams will be constantly upgraded and changed at times, he needed an ultimate goal. She told him ‘I don’t ask you to be an engineer or a doctor or a businessman. Be a good citizen of this country. I can’t tolerate if people blame me for being mother of a criminal/corrupt/cheat’ Being good citizen is now on the top of his goals.
She dedicated her entire life for her son. She stopped watching her favorite serials when he was in 10th and +2. Her TV timings were restricted to half an hour a day that too for the national news. She stayed in small village where she spent more than 30 years, that too in a poor infrastructured house. She waited for years to build an own house until her son gets a job, which satisfies him and gives opportunities to achieve his goals.
They even fight every now and then the reasons are so stupid for those who listen to it. One of a such recent fight was about the corruption and black money. She argued as problem is increasing. He countered as it is getting solved. People who interfered between them went mad.
On the eve of my mother’s 60th birthday I can’t stop myself writing this. "Happy birthday Amma".

This is how Jamindars fooled British!
Charles Cornwallis brought new rules under the name ‘Permanent Settlement’ to collect the revenues from Jamindars. These Jamindars had several villages under their control. They were made responsible for collecting revenues from the Ryots- Farmers working in the field under their control. Subsequently they had to pay the revenues to the East India Company. There was also a clause, what if the Jamindars did not pay the revenue to the company? According to the permanent settlement, the lands of the Jamindars who had arrears will be publicly auctioned and the highest bidder will be appointed as new Jamindar. Though several lands changed their Jamindariship the interesting part is how these Jaminadrs used the same rule of auctioning in favour of them.
One of such famous auction is of Land of Raja of Budwan. His several Estates were auctioned to recover the huge arrears. Numerous purchasers came to auction and estates were sold in auction. But the 95% of the sale was fictious. Many purchasers were the servants or the agents of the Raja. The outsiders who came to auction were beaten in Lathis by Lathyals and made sure that they wont participate. Servants or the agents of the Raja bought the land on behalf of the Raja or Jamindar. So the land continued to remain in the control of the Jamindari.

Beat a Person In His Own Game
A lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, and then insured them against fire among other things. Within a month of having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires". The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason: that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion.
The lawyer sued..and won! In delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated, nevertheless, that the lawyer held a policy from the company in which it had warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered to be unacceptable fire, and was obligated to pay the claim. Rather than endure a lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the rare cigars in the "fires".
Now the best part.
After the lawyer cashed the cheque, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of arson!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine

Fundamental rights and Reservations
Many believe that our constitution makers thought the reservations in negative sense. As there were lot of discriminations based on casts one born, they believed that it would be justified to extend the same for a period, not more than 10 years. Sardar Patel one of the chief architects of the Indian constitution said that "that the object of the House should be, as soon as possible and as rapidly as possible to drop these classifications and bring all to a level of equality"
The Indian constitution grants its citizens certain fundamental rights which are guaranteed by the constitution. Unlike any other legal rights, these fundamental rights are protected and enforced by the constitution. The fundamental rights can not be denied even by the government except in some special cases.
The constitution speaks of equal opportunities in employment and education to all the citizen of India without the discriminations on any ground. The related articles of the constitution read as follow which are self explanatory:
Article 16(1): There shall be equality of opportunity for all citizens in matters relating to employment or appointment to any office under the state
Article 16(2) No citizen shall on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, descent, place of birth, resident or any of them be ineligible for or discriminated against in any respect of any employment or office under the State.
Article 15(1): "The state shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth, or any of them"
Article 29[2]: No citizen shall be denied admission into any educational institution maintained by the State or receiving aid out of the State funds on ground only of religion, race, caste, language, or any of them.
In all these articles, the makers of our constitution speak about the equal opportunities and eradicating the discrimination on various grounds. The equal opportunities can be brought by increasing the competitiveness of the underprivileged citizens. Reservations in jobs will not create equal opportunities according to many scholars. Reservations are meant for the outcomes in employment opportunities, and not for the opportunities. Equal opportunities can be provided only through quality primary and secondary education which may also include special coaching and adequate assistance for any inadequately represented population groups.
There is a post reserved for some ‘community’ where there no candidate from that community applied. These seats were kept as backlogs though there the availability of suitable candidate is present from some other community. Don’t you think the employment opportunity is denied just because the second person is not from that reserved community? Isn’t it discrimination on the grounds of whatever mentioned in the constitution?
The wish of the constitution in bringing about the reservation has a wide meaning. In India we have seen a lot of discriminations on various grounds. There was lot of evil practices in our society. That too, we Indians have treated some people from particular communities as untouchable and saw as non human beings. There was a great inequality in our society. To support such people and give some opportunities for them and to bring them to the front row, the constitution wished for reservation. It also tells the reservation will not be against the fundamental rights mentioned above. The article about the reservations is as follow:
Article 16(4) "Nothing in this article shall prevent the State from making any provision for the reservation of posts in favour of any backward class of citizens, which in the opinion of state is not adequately represented in the services under the state"
The reservations in present scenario are not able to fulfill the wish of the constitution. A candidate from a reserved class becomes an MLA from a reserved assembly seat. Once he becomes an MLA his status got rises and enjoys every benefit an MLA from other forward communities enjoys. His cast does not matter for making money or bar him from using powers!! But his cast tag will continue with him. He expires and his son who have enjoyed every benefit that a non backward citizen enjoys, has enough money dominates the backward people of his own community and makes lobby, gets elected and enjoys all the benefits that has to be given to backward people though he is not backward now only for the reason he had born in that class. The other people of his own community will stay in the same situation even after 50 years from now making our politicians to think the same kind of reservation to be continued.
Now our judiciary has to interpret the constitution regarding the opportunities, backward class of people and reservations as it did interpret some of the fundamental rights in 1970s .

Introduction Matters...
One of my friend told that her father always introduced her as ‘she is my daughter, studying in USA’. These words are most important for him. She also tells he always introduced her mother in a single sentence ‘she is my wife, a government teacher’. He has a government teacher as a wife!
I visited some local banks with one of my colleague. He always introduced me as ‘he is our new officer’. I had to loose other identity to make other person comfortable. They are not interested in knowing my name or my hobby or my graduation. They need the information that I am an officer, so I need to loose other identities.
My uncle is a contractor. An engineer matters more for him. So he always introduced me to his friends as an engineer. He never bothered to tell my name too. I also experienced good times when I was introduced by my friends to their friends as ‘this is my friend, Akshay’. They created closeness and other information flew easily and I got few friends.
I was meeting my colleague’s husband first time. She introduced me to her husband just by pointing me ‘Akshay...’. That means he knows me. What he knows! What he does not know!? It created a tension during the first meet. Finally he told they both read my blogs! Then we talked for hours.
I was talking to a lady who got changed her name after marriage. I asked her how you felt when you got changed your name not for your wish! She told she felt like she lost her identity. We are always identified by our name. We feel special when some one calls us by name. Similarly give them their own identity.
Introduction takes different formats according to the situations and people who is getting introduced, to whom and who is the middle person.

A trip to Tuljapur
History: The history records of Bhavani temple exists from 12th century. During Maratha regime the temple rose to prominence. It is said that Shivaji used to take blessing of this Deity of Bhavani for success in his military campaigns. In this legendary it is also mentioned that mother Tulja Bhavani presented Shivaji with the Bhavani Sword that made him invincible king of the era. It is popularly known as Bhavani Talwar, presently it is in London museum.
The Temple: The temple has a great entrance called Raje Shahaji Mahadwar. You can take your belongings into this entrance and have to keep bangs, camera and even mobiles in the cloak room. Walk downstairs at the right of the entrance where you can find Gomukh Tirth, ground water which is continuously flowing from the hillside. From there we should walk to the security check which might make you irritated. The temple has tight security, where you will find the security personal and the CC camera every corner of the temple. There will be two queues each for Mukha Darshan and Dharma Darshan. If you stand in Dharma Darshan you will end up in watching the idol of Goddess Bhavani in closed range of about 12 feet. But in Mukha Darshan you can walk in lesser crowd to see the Goddess idol from double the distance of Dharma Darshan. But in latter you will be having much time to sit there and enjoy watching the poojas. Just behind the main temple there is a round black stone which is believed to be fortune telling. You can touch it using both hands and it will more either left, right of stand stable and the fortunes are negative, positive and cant be known as of now respectively.
When to visit: On special occasions like Navratras, Lalita Panchami, Makara Sankranti and Rathasaptami, thousands of devotees flock the temple and hence it will be crowded. During April and May the mercury level will be very high, better to avoid summer months to visit the temple. I went on the day of Makara Sankranti and was much crowded but the temperature was at 33 C in afternoon.
The environment: The temple is clean and well maintained. Outside the temple does not have much difference from any other pilgrimage places, though comparatively good. The people inside and outside the temple are cooperative. They won’t put three ‘namas’ like Pandarapur to exploit money, the priests won’t do some useless pooja for you to ask you money.
This is one of the very few temples which I thought of visiting again.
K9 Web Protection to Control Internet Activity
Now I have allowed the social networks not more than one hour a day. No browsing allowed after 11PM to 7AM in the morning. By default it will not allow any porn or adult site until unless you put the administrative password to change the settings. There are number of website categories which you can block all the time or restrict the usage. You can allow facebook like social networks for just one hour or even just fifteen minutes. Emails, humors/jokes, trading anything can be given controlled access. Anyone who has feelings of some kind of websites wasting his/her time can have great advantage using this software.
The K9 protection has a wonderful database that during my test it never slipped out of protection. The most advantageous matter is K9 home edition is free of cost and anybody can use it in there system after getting free license which will be sent to your mail ID.
If you have children using internet at your house, I strongly recommend this software. Because according to the data provided in the K9 website-
- 1 in 4 youth have unwanted exposure to inappropriate pictures each year
- Nine of 10 kids aged 8-16 have viewed pornography on the Internet, often in the process of doing homework.
- One in five children ages 10-17 have received a sexual solicitation over the Internet
- 74 percent of commercial pornography sites display free porn images on the homepage and are linked through some other sites.
- Cyber-sex reinforces and normalizes sexual disorders.

No more numbers please!!
Somebody comes and asks me what my contact number is. I do not want everybody to have my mobile number. So have to search for what my office land line number is? Out of many landlines, through which I can be reached? Till today I do not know! I could be the same case for many of you!
Chat from the HR department asks me to give my PAN card number. Permanent Account Number is just number you must remember as soon as you start earning!
And my mother calls me to recharge her Dish TV viewing card. Dish TV toll free is saved in my mobile and I call them. IVR asks me to enter lengthy VC number. You can not remember such an idiotic number. If I do not remember it is also OK with the mobile number I have registered. But I do not remember which mobile number I have given for them out of my three mobile phone numbers.
Then I prefer recharging online. It asks some log in ID, it is there in my gmail, search for it and enter to login. Easy job! Later it asks for my credit card number. Again 16 digits, CVV number is of three digits, and a VBV password. All are numbers!
I often forget to recharge my prepaid mobile until it gets completely used. If it is online recharge, again you should remember your debit card or credit card number or for internet banking you should remember your log in number different for different banks. And they also ask you to not to write it down!!
The SMS from BSNL reminds- your bPhone is due for payment for bill number so and so. I need to remember another user number or customer number and some passwords that must be changed in every 90 days. When the online transactions are not successful, you need to call the customer care of the bank or the mobile service provider! You have to tell him at least 10 digit account number, transaction number, mobile number, SIM number, mobile handset number, EMI number…… whatever the number he might ask for! You might be having account with five banks, then you brain will be full of useless numbers
To see the present portfolio of my very small investments in shares I have to again remember two different numbers. Log in ID and log in pin. It’s good now, only two number. Otherwise, remembering DPN id, client ID and the phone number of the stock broker was more troublesome.
When the result of my exam declared, I need to enter my enrollment number. I don’t remember my IGNOU MBA roll number. Whenever the result comes, I need to find my hall ticket of ID card.
Voting is your right and duty. For this simple reason you should get your some random numbered voting card and also serial number in that voting booth.
Breaking traffic signal is my bad habit. Police asks for vehicle number along with the driving license.
Another thing is these numbers might be of no important for you. You might have used your vehicle number once in six months. But second person, who is asking for such numbers expect you to compulsorily remember these numbers. Otherwise all these people will suspect you. Policeman may start interrogating you whose vehicle is it? Bank people may start thinking you might not be the true owner of the card.
Is it possible to have minimal number of numbers for all these?
How can you expect a person to remember such a huge number of numbers
