Cuil, newest in search engine race, will survive?

Cuil .com is the newest in the search engine race. It was released on July 28, 2008. is a search engine that organizes web pages by content and displays relatively long entries along with thumbnail pictures for many results. Cuil is managed and developed largely by former employees of Google: Anna Patterson, Russell Power. Currently it has 124,426,951,803 web pages in it which is the highest number that is there in any search engine. Though it sometimes fail to search sites which google, yahoo or msn does.

Features of Cuil as they are told in Cuil site:
  1. “Explore By Category” with a list of subjects related to your search. If you roll-over a category, it will open and show refinements related to your search. If you click on one, Cuil will direct you to this additional information. Comment: Yahoo introduced more friendly solution Glue Page search which shows news about the query, blog search by google also and you can also switch between the classic search.
  2. Cuil will show you “Tabs” that suggest ways to clarify your search. For example, if you search for “Jaguar,” there are a number of things you could be searching for, like Jaguar cars, Jaguar cats. Comment: Google shows the same suggestion to clarify in more easy way at the top of the search, without the tabs
  3. When you type a query, sometimes you'll see a search suggestion with an icon representing a website. Comment: Most of all the search engines have introduced this search suggestion.
Present and future: According to Alexa Cuil had 0.2% of worldwide internet users in late July 2008 and by September 12, 2008, it had dropped to 0.02%. Traffic ranking is also fluctuating; it was ranked as the 5,340th site by traffic in Sep 2008, by October dropped to 21,960, now it is 13,210th site by traffic as on 20 Feb 2009. In India it is 9,205th site by traffic. But the three months global internet users trend to Cuil is down by 53%. So now the question is will it survive in google dominated search engine world?

How to search Kannada in Google?

I always keep watching what my readers want and what they are looking for while entering the keyword in google search, why they land to my site. If my blog does not have an answer for them I try to answer to them. This is such a article.
Recently a visitor hit my blog looking for "how to search Kannada in google", "how to use google Kannada search". Here is a answer:
Go to google.co.in. Then click on Kannada which is given in the list of languages available, or directly go to Google Kannada. Then type what you are looking for in English. For example if you are looking for ಉತ್ತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ just type 'uttara kannada jille' in the search box and it will show the options in Kannada as soon as you type. See the snap shot. Select the option if that is correct and hit search. If you don't get the word what exactly you want, you can type in the google transliterate and copy the Kannada word and paste in the search box. I don't think you never find it necessary to go for this. Once you get the word in search box, you are done. Pages matching with the Kannada words will be listed in the search result.

Long waiting is over! Google Lab has now came up with on screen Kannada Keyboard and enabled search option. This is the easiest of all Kannada Search. Similar search is also available in most of all Indian languages. No tutorial is required for this. Just use the mouse!

Brahmins- real Dalits today

Today we are not in the society where Mayura Sharma ( a Brahmin) could became Mayura Verma (a Kshatriya, founder of Kadamba Kingdom, Emperor of Banavasi, 1st kingdom of Karnataka). Those days a Brahmin was not a Brahmin because of his birth, he could become a Brahmin when he achieves a height of Brahmajnan required for a Brahmin. In that sense I can't tell I'm a Brahmin, I don't have Brahmajnan. I don't think anybody can claim he is a Brahmin today. So what I am writing here is about the group of people or a society of India and how it is being harassed politically and socially today. It was Muslim invaders who started harassing Brahmins, they created a big gap between Brahmins and other casts of Hindu community. Then it was British rulers who widened this gap. Whatever it could be Brahmins had contributed a lot for the construction of India. Or in other words it is because of Brahmins, ancient India is getting recognised today.
Danielou told "the teaching of philosophy, arts, sciences, which constituted the prestigious Indian cultural tradition, became more and more ignored and could only survive thanks to the Brahmins, without any help whatsoever from the State." Every invader treated Brahmins as the first enemy. "Alfonso de Albuquerque started a reign of terror in Goa, razing temples to erect churches in their stead, burning "heretics", crucifying Brahmins, converting the lower castes"
Come to present situation. It is not the Brahmins who is not allowing the Dalits, Harijans or any other backward class people to come to front row. It is those who are little forward in their own community not allowing people behind them to go forward. In Tamilnadu, even today Dalits are parked in one corner and cannot enter the area devoted to Vanniars, who are just one rung above them, writes Francois Gautier in Rewriting Indian History. In the same book he continues to write "..Brahmins, who actually represent today a minority, which is often underprivileged... ...Brahmins never interfered in politics and today they are often a neglected lot..." "...In fact today, it is the Brahmins who have become the Dalits of India..." .
Harassment on Brahmins did not stopped there "..most of the intellectual Brahmin Tamil class has emigrated outside Tamil Nadu; the average income of Brahmins is less than that of non-Brahmins; a high percentage of Brahmin students drop out at the intermediate level ; 75% of domestic help and cooks in Andhra Pradesh are Brahmins; and most of Delhi’s public toilets are cleaned by Brahmins...."
Come to Kashmir now. Kashmiri Pandits became refugees in their own land. 1 million Kashmiri Hindus in 1900 in the Kashmir valley and barely a few hundreds today. Islamic terrorists concentrated on Pandits in the beginning. They knew if they destroy them the soul of Hinduism could be attacked. They attacked on Pandits, many Pandits lost their life, house, land temples, number of beautiful Kashmiri Pandit girls were raped. Where was the Human Right Commission or the activists sleeping? Are only Dalits human? I have seen number of journalist, media firms highlights even a Dalit kills another Dalit due to some personal rivalry they gives it a national news value publishing "A Dalit murdered". Why they could not see a Brahmin getting murdered or India getting wounded?

VTU, SBI and My result

SBI is the largest bank in India. Pay package for an entry level officer in SBI is double than the average CTC of an entry level engineer graduate. The company in which I got placed told me that it will pay Rs 2,75,000 per year, where here it was Rs 5,40,000 per year. In July, SBI called for application for exam for various officer posts on probationary basis. When I applied in Aug 2008 I was not aware of these facts. As I am always interested in competitive exams made an application. At that time I was clueless about the economic situation of today too.
It was not tough, I could easily clear both SBI prelims and main exams held in Oct and Nov 2008. I got result of main exam in January. The world already started experiencing a hard time. Thousands of job cuts are being reported from all over the world. It was my second anniversary of Campus placement, joining date was not intimated by the company. So I was happy that I could go to SBI and beat the effect of economic recession or also you can term it as depression on me. But the fate was different.
I went to SBI headquarters in Bangalore on 9 Feb 2008. As it had been mentioned in the advertisement of SBI recruitment cell, a person who has finished his graduation on or before 1 July 2008 was only eligible to apply. I had finished my graduation in the month June 2008. Though VTU had provided me the marks sheet tells I passed the exam in July 2008. There started a conflict. On which date I became a graduate? But the officers were not ready to accept my application is valid because there is no proof to confirm I became graduate on or before 1 July 2008. I had completed my last exam in June 2008, if my university VTU had printed the fact that "he has passed the examination held in June 2008" I had no problem. But they did not.
Look at the pictures. First tme table- clearly tells exams were over in June 2008, but certificate read "held in July 2008". A small neglect of VTU made me pay a heavy loss. I was sure that I will get this job, as my performance through out the examination procedures was good , if this mistake from the VTU was not there in my certificate.
Later a question aroused. From when should a student considered as a graduate? Is it on the day when he gets result? or from the day when he writes the last exam? or the day when the university delivers convocation certificate? When it was discussed with the educationalists and some high court attorneys they made clear that a student becomes a graduate from the day when he writes the last exam. Result tells whether he became a graduate or not from that day. But now, whom should I blame for this? University- VTU- which did not provide the fact that I passed the exam in June 2008, or SBI- not willing to accept my application because I don't have a proof that I had not been a graduate on 1 July or my result itself?

Story of Chander Mohan and Anuradha Bali to Chand Mohammad and Fiza Bali

Kya love story hai:
Chander Mohan, the elder son of former Haryana chief minister Bhajan Lal is the main role in this real life drama. Another role is Anuradha Bali a.ka.a Fiza, former Haryana Assistant Advocate General. Enough with introduction let me start story.

Chander mohan, 38 years old, elder son of Haryana strongman Bhajan Lal, was not like any normal politicians, he never had an interest in politics. His father is a Congress leader, hence he came to politics as it is an inherited asset. As a family politics he enjoyed assembly membership for 4 times. He also became deputy chief minister of Haryana. Chand, already had a lovely wife Bishnoi for 13 years, and two chlidren. He came in contact with a city lawer Anuradha Bali. She was 32, divorced with a Mohali businessman and ready for some serious relationships. Look at photo, even today she looks hot! She Assistant Advocate General of Haryana. Then both started acting like lovers in college days and nobody could find them in office like college students bunks classes for dates.

As she tells he trapped her through constant SMSes, which he used to send her since 2006. The sample messages read: "Anu you don’t know how much I love you. God has created you with great love and affection. You are the ultimate jewel I possess." and "Anu mujhe apna lo varna mujhe maar do." Recall your college days. How exciting if it happens in highest government office of the state. Kya love story hai!!

Mujhse shadi karogi:
First it was just a rumour that Haryana's deputy CM had disappeared. Nobody had in November seen him for more than a month . Congress people initially said he was campaigning for the party in Jammu. Then they realized Fiza was missing too. So later she was removed from the state's assistant advocate general post for disappearing from the office. But Chand continued to be deputy CM even though nobody knew where is he. They wanted to marry. But they could not get married as he had not divorced his first wife Seema until he follows Hinduism, as there second marriage when first wife is still there is not allowed. So both decided to convert to Islam and then get married as Islamic laws allows them to married though he has a wife. In Meerut Dhander Mohan became Dhand Mohammad and Anuradha Bali became Fiza Bali and had done the nikaah. They were together for two months. Their love faded just in two months. Mujhse shadi karogi got over!!

Pyaar Mein Twist:
Chand Mohan left his second wife and returned to home. Fiza said he had been “kidnapped” by his younger brother Kuldip Bishnoi’s goons. So he had to reappear on media to confirm he was not kidnapped. He told to media that he is not a kid to be kidnapped and he still loved his first wife Seema and children, with whom he wanted to reunite. Denying the possibility of returning to Fiza, Chand had termed her as “badhiya cheez (good thing)”. For this statement Fiza reacted “Am I a vegetable, cold drink or lassi that he said so?”.

Anuradha Bali alias Fiza tried to commit suicide swallowing more than 50 sleeping pills. She was taken to a private hospital in a semi-conscious state and there saced her life. So story continued. She was arrested for allegedly attempting suicide, but soon after she was granted bail. Then it came- Pyaar Mein Twist!!.

Masala item:
Also a Canadian group, India-Pacific Media and movies Inc. and India Post Canada, has approached Bali for cinematic rights for her life story. The film is likely to be titled “Fiza ka Chand”. Fiza Bali offered to play her own role in the movie. Sure to become very good Masala Item!!

Human Error Caused Google warning "This site may harm your computer"

Saturday, I was using Google search, suddenly a search result started showing every site "This site may harm your computer". I was shocked. Then repeated search with the name of some reliable sites, again same message. Then I typed Google in query box and hit search. Astonished to see the result. It was too "This site may harm your computer". I thought something happened to my computer. I took a snapshot of the result page and turned off the computer. After sometime when I again logged in into Google the error was not there. It comfirmed it was some error caused by Google. However it disturbed me for a while. I came to know about the error next day in news paper reports. Here is the snapshot of the page. It could be a rare snapshot. Click on image to view it clearly.
Google explained it "Google flags search results with the message "This site may harm your computer" if the site is known to install malicious software in the background or otherwise surreptitiously. We do this to protect our users against visiting sites that could harm their computers. We maintain a list of such sites through both manual and automated methods. We work with a non-profit called StopBadware.org to come up with criteria for maintaining this list, and to provide simple processes for webmasters to remove their site from the list.
We periodically update that list and released one such update to the site this morning. Unfortunately (and here's the human error), the URL of '/' was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and '/' expands to all URLs. Fortunately, our on-call site reliability team found the problem quickly and reverted the file."
