9 VTU colleges in The Week’s top 100 Engineering Colleges

12 of India's top 100 engineering colleges are in Karnataka

Karnataka has its own name in the quality engineering colleges. Bangalore is always a favorite choice for the technology education. The Week, India’s leading weekly has published the list of 100 top engineering colleges in the country in its June 17, 2012 issue. 12 institutions of Karnataka have secured their place in the list. Out of 12 best engineering colleges in Karnataka, 9 are affiliated to VTU. Other three intuitions are National Institute of Technology (NITK), Surathkal at 15^th place, University Visweswaraya College of engineering at 37^th place and Manipal Institute of Technology Manipal at 38^th place. The 9 best engineering colleges in Bangalore and Karnataka according to The Week which are affiliated to VTU (some are autonomous) are as follows:

In my personal view the list may interchange. But definitely all are good colleges and felt the The Week- Hansa research survey is fair. Even the ranking may change engineering stream wise. One should also enquire about department in a particular college before taking an admission into it. A best college may a bad department. Thankfully few institutions like New Horizon college of Engineering which used to advertise as India’s second best college through a result of paid survey have not made entry into list to misguide the students. Surprisingly very few colleges of Tamil Nadu are in the list though it has a huge number of engineering colleges. Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) has the highest best affiliated colleges.

Miss you all, my dear friends

It is a pure personal memory I am sharing with you. It is about a fantastic journey of 4 years in Bangalore and in MVJ College of Engineering. October 25th, 2004 was the first day of our engineering life. We all came together, became friends, fought with each other, witnessed love, saw affection, showed our unity in fighting with lecturers, went on strike against the college, we enjoyed, made merry and now departing with a heavy heart.

We were the batch of 28. We missed few friends due to useless VTU rule 'year back' for carrying more than 4 subjects, also we got new friends due to the same rules. The seniors became our classmates. One such friend who lost his one year, was always telling stories of other friends naming them with 'Shole' characters. He refused to sign on a letter signed by all of us against a lecturer just because that lecturer was giving him good marks in internal exams. The same lectures gave him NSSR and left the college. We missed another friend, who was always carrying a script for never ending TV serial with full of his family problems, sentiments and sex.

We were representing one of the feature of the country- unity in diversity. Different in cultures, we were loving each others. We had a great Krishna Bhakthe, a pure vegan, who followed each and every sentences told in ISKCON temple. She was a good friend of a guy from completely different culture, Muzzu, who never missed his Friday prayers, who was always dying for non vegetarian dishes.

Bindu had a mixture of Indo-US Culture, a great believer of God- only during exam and results!

Deepak a.k.a Deal Machcha, a good dealer of any thing in Bangalore from cabs for a trip to mobile phone.

Gaurav, Guruji of everything, was a expert in all matters from study materials to porn sites.

Karthik, my ultimate room mate from beginning to end was a live cartoon.

Dirty joke expert Raju Kaju is now an IITan Raju. We are proud of you!

Om lived his entire engineering student life on 'Bun Butter Jam'.

Vasant never read, he always practiced writing the answers.

All of us  had a common thought; we had done a great mistake by taking admission in this college. We never been proud of our college or its location at outskirts of the city where it was situated, but we were always proud of our classmates.

We fought against the management of the college; we argued with the director, we made few bad lecturers to say goodbye to the college, and few others to stay back. We had unity; it gave us strength to go against anything that is bad for us.

We had great lecturers in our college. Our beloved HoD, Dr Manohar Shinde was the great scholar we had ever seen. Unfortunately we missed him in the last semester as he moved to industry from teaching. He was the most respected person for his knowledge and his friendly nature. Class became more joyful when our seniors started their career as lecturers. Adithya was a good friend, guide and lecturer. We were calling him 'Sir' outside the college, 'Adi' inside the class!! Let us pray god; he may get enough strength to come out of the grief of death of his father.
